Ramadhan Diary 2011 part 3 (final)

Assalamualaikum and hi!

Breaking fast is one of the best part in Ramadhan. There are lots of Bazaar Ramadhan in Malaysia. However, there is quite different in Egypt whereby there's just little people in Egypt who's doing selling before breaking fast.

Usually, Egyption will break their fast by eating milk together with dates. Some sort like milk and dates shake! Just imagine it! Milky and sweety.. it's tastier when it is refrigerated and cold.

dates milk shake by mr google.

Yup, just like that. Then, they perform maghrib. Main dishes will follow after the pray. Hoho.. That's the time when the heavy meals come! There will be delicious rice, big savory chicken, yum-yum salad, traditional dishes and so on.

Normally, I just eat what i'd cook for breaking fast daily. I eat rice, spagetty, some light meals such as Fried Popiah, Caramel Pudding, and many more. Quite rather different from Malaysia, there are lots of Egyption do break fast together. I have been in one of the ceremony in my neighbourhood. By the way, he is a turkish and married to egyption woman. They offers us, the international students to break fast at their places. Wow! so generous! Thanks Allah! They had save my money! weee~ i'm so full!

The most interesting part when there are people in car passing some drinks to the pedestrians from inside while it's still moving. It's like a 'Live Giveaway'. Oh my goodness. Awesome! I remininscing a scene from Malaysia whereby 'Bubur Lambuk' are famously given to the neigbourhoods. The most well-known Bubur Lambuk is from Masjid Kg Baru, Kl. By the way, i'd never try it before. Hohoho. The difference is whereby the donors are static and the recipients are moving in Malaysia. For an instance, donors are standing by the road and give 'Bubur Lambuk' to drivers passing them. In Egypt, the donor go by themselves searching for the recievers and give their donation. Different, right? Just be a pedestrian before breaking fast, and you will get a gift!

We are performing tarawikh at ramadhan night. However, I'm having my tarawikh at home. My mom doesn't give permission to go out at night even in Ramadhan. So, my friends who are in the same condition like me and I alternate being the leader for tarawikh. But some of my friends go to mosque and tell me how's going in it. There's no 'wirid' in between the prayer and there is 'tazkirah' session around 15 minutes in between 4th and 5th rakaat. A number of mosque doing 20 rakaat and other mosque doing 8 rakaat. Not much differences to Malaysia.

Tarawikh scene in alexandria from mr google.

By the way, I spend days of Ramadhan in Egypt. Even just in few days, I feel the tranquility and lively Ramadhan here. I will be home and celebrating Eid Fitr in Malaysia! It'll be much more fun and joy spending Ramadhan and Eid Fitr with my family plus more kind of foods, tv programmes, laughing and beautiful scene. Hoyyyyeeaa!!

daaaaa~ im flying home!
